3 Yoga Poses to Open the Crown Chakra

The Crown chakra, located at the top of the head, is associated with enlightenment and spirituality. When the Crown chakra is blocked, an individual tends to feel disconnected with their higher self. When the Crown chakra is open, energy is able to flow freely which allows for spiritual growth.

When an individual goes through a spiritual development, the Crown chakra is wide open. This impacts the aura which is the energetic field surrounding the physical body. As the individual’s vibrational frequency rises, he or she progresses towards enlightenment over the course of a lifetime.

So how does a person continue the forward momentum towards spiritual enlightenment? There are a number of ways to approach enlightenment from a mental, emotional, energetic and even physical level.

Practicing yoga is one of the many physical approaches available to help clear the Crown chakra. With so many different styles of yoga practices out there, naturally, there are a number yoga poses to help you clear the Crown chakra.

Regardless of the style, results do not happen overnight. Like building a muscle, it takes consistent practice to start feeling shifts! Here are three ways to help you get started in opening up your Crown chakra and better connect with your higher self.

1. Wheel pose (Chakrasana or Urdva Dhanurasana): Starting from bridge pose, use your arms and legs to lift yourself up to a full backbend. Feel the sensations of your energy rushing towards the crown of your head. Hold this pose for a few seconds before slowly lowering your body down to the mat. To help counter any tension in lower back, windshield wide your knees from side to side when your back is fully lowered back down to the mat.

2. Downward facing dog (Adho mukha śvānāsana): Starting from child’s pose, straighten your knees so that your heels touch the mat. Peddle out the feet from side to side to help with energy flow through the crown of the head. To increase the energetic flow, shift from downdog to high plank. Hold the plank for 3 seconds before making your way back to downdog.

3. Plow pose (Halasana): Starting from shoulder stand, use your core to slowly lower your feet towards the mat behind you. Notice any sensations as you hold this pose for a few seconds allowing energy to flow from the feet towards the head. If this is not comfortable, you can remain in should stand and still be able to open the Crown chakra as energy flows towards the head.
